Who Are You? Is There a Stranger Inside - A Poem

The majority of people don’t know who they are
They become skilled at how to imitate; feelings, ideas, life style of others
We have NO control over what happens to us...
They told you, you were to be seen and not heard
That you’re this, and not enough of that
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Do you look deep into your eyes to see your soul?
Do you believe in God inside their somewhere, or do you only answer to yourself?
Do you see how magnificent, and remarkable and splendid you are?
Only you can see if you are light or dark deep inside; when you see in that mirror
Now at this ripe age I don’t recognize who I see and that is so frightening
Who is this person that has moved inside of me and made me change?
You do not know who you are, and you see a great deal less
Where did you get the idea that you are less?
From the people you love and trusted while growing up
We have NO control over what happens unless, we know who we are
They told you, you were to be seen and not heard
That you were this, and not enough of that, messing with your head
When you achieve some of your finest moment they put you down
You were taught that love was conditional; you must do this to get that
And this is how you will carry all your relationships with you throughout your life
Why, because you don’t know who you are
So, who are you? You are a stranger inside yourself
