To construct a sweat lodge you need to assess the true integrity of a essential sweat lodge. You should seek your friends to assist you in constructing your sweat lodge. consistently think about the integrity of the lodge, keep integral articles that are part of the Native American culture, this exists as a sacred experience, along with your heart and mind, be in balance with this characteristic day. This continues as a time to celebrate, a new beginning, a new year, and compassion for universal substances that connect Mother Earth.

You’ll Need:
Petition additional friends before the day that you want to fabricate your lodge, with this method they benefit collectively as a group experience. Ask them to fetch as many blanket and tarps they can dig up.
Look for the perfect place to build your sweat lodge, additionally you need to know how to run your ceremony. This sacred space will allow your grandfathers to enter and merge during the course of your sweats. For now, the first step must be built preceding the first snow fall.

There are four directions; South, West, North or East. You need to coordinate and to identify from your own intimate experiences, what direction you would choose the, Flap door to face? You will desire for the group to bring blankets and canvas to encase atop the lodge. You need to direct, locate and collect willow branches. You can detect them near rivers and small steams. You want to cut down about eight long branches and don’t strip them clean yet. When you rejoin to the main location you will then clean and strip the willow branches there. You will keep the willow twigs to tie the branches for the foundation,(see picture) or if need, bring twine. subsistence required be naive as well as evoked from the Earth only.

Now remember, Everything you gather needs to be prayed over, seek acceptance to accumulate each and every piece of wood, sage and rock, constantly thank the spirits. Angle one long branch and channel it deep in the ground, and another one will be directly opposite, place each one in a deep hole. Here and now, you and another person should bow your willow branches whilst it is still soft. That is why you wish to plan ahead, you are urged to begin with the willows right away. A lodge is low, you will crawl in and everyone will sit in a tight circle, in all truth the circle should never be broken, however that is for another story. Crossbeam the two willows in the center, overlapping. Now you will do this in the next equal direction so you now have four sides tied together in the middle. Before you began with the rest of the willow branches, you need to groove out a craves in the center of the lodge. Again, this will be were the hot lava rocks will be placed during the sweat. Make it deep enough to add 28 rocks, some will be small and some larger. A warrior sweat can embrace up to 50 rocks. Now, you can add your next two willows to cerise cross the center, next you can conclude with the remaining two willows. Finally, the foundation is done. When the willow dry’s it will last forever. This is now a magnificent time to have your family and friends join on the remainder of the elements that are desired for the lodge. in addition everything needs be natural and made from the Earth.

Lava rock is the rock of choice. you will need to retain a truck and go out in the open spaces and gather 28 rocks. And, an ample cargo of wood for the fire that heats the rock, which will burn most of the day. This wood must never be touched or processed in any way. It must be from abandoned branches of trees, you never cut down or kill a tree for the wood. You gather broken branches large and small, this fire will be baking the rocks for hours. hence, you need as much wood as possible. Out in Taos, New Mexico lava was just everywhere, along with the best sage brush with the aroma like no other. here and now, gather large pieces of sage, if you are in an area that does not have good sage you can order sage from many stores in Taos, go to online stores, or grow your own. The people that stay around home base, while you are gathering supplies, needs to make an area for the fire pit, this pit needs to be facing the flap or open door and the alter, while you are in the sweat.

This step is very consequential. The fire should be about ten feet away from the sweet, when you open your flap during the sweats, you will endlessly behold the firer burning.. Collect an assortment of rocks, any kind of rocks, to place in a horse-shoe shape one on top of the other.. also, channel out a lower patch for the crater to sit, the stone wall protects the fire from spreading. The opening facing the flap door where you enter into the sweat. The reason you get so low and crawl into the sweat is to humble yourself in the eyes of God. Between the sweat lodge and the fire, exists the crowning sacred space, you can never walk between that space, this is where the sacred alter will be. Feathers that solely Native Americans are permitted to carry, lots of sage, each sweat leader will gather his special sacred items. My leader, Bear, had a skull of a mammoth filled with sage. Remember, NO women, on her moon, can (NEVER) go to a sweat or be around when you are building the lodge, or be around any sacred materials.

During the Sweat ceremony, the women that can’t sweat, help with the children and lay out the food for the feast after the sweat. The sacred Pipe will also be on the alter, and will be used during one of the rounds. Sweet Grass in another wonderful aroma while in the sweat as well as sap resin which makes the fire pop and it smells awesome.

Next, you will begin to cloak the sweat with layers and layers of blankets and tarps until it is pitch black inside the lodge. Equally important, you will need to apply big rocks around the sweat to hold down the tarps, and keep the lodge dark. Now, remember you need to create a flap so you can open and close during the four rounds. The sweat will endure about two hours and is required to begin preceding the sun sets. I comprehend this is a lot of guidance to simulate, but believe me it is worth it. Based on your background and need for spiritual cleansing this will release all the toxins in your body. You will become healthier each time you have a sweat. I went to the lodge twice a week for years.

Don’t omit the drums during each round and if you are not a pipe carrier you should illicit one. During this gathering process, Bear would always say, "this is the day to be with God, and that every step is a prayer". I will try to get to the sweat Lodge do’s and don'ts with part two of the my feature article. The advice you will need to investigate, the location for your lodge? Find that perfect spot for healing and sharing, you will feel the love and power of the lodge. I always went to an assembled sweat, women and men, and I find those are the best, you can share your energy together during the sweat and gain power, strength and compassion for Mother Earth.

As well as, reflect that the original Native women were very modest, so if you hear about a naked sweat it is Not a real sweat lodge. If anyone whats to charge you money to attend, that is also NOT a real sweat. Men wear shorts and women will wear long light dresses to cover up. Some sweats only have dirt on the ground, I like to connect to Mother Earth and dig my hands into the Earth, aw that sweet smell of Mother Earth, several sweats place down some old carpet and others sit on there towels.
Love of Mother Earth my Native name is "Little Bear" "Ho! Mitakuye Oyasin"
